“Who gets the first thump?” Maximagnificent Sharkbanger asked.

“You know the rule,” Max said with a laugh. “Whoever gets there first! And who will it be?” Max looked from one happy silver face to next. “Will it be you, Megastupendous Sharkwomper? Or you, Maxiterrific Sharkbasher? Or you, Superglorious Sharkzamboozler! You can’t wait to slam your snoot into the underbelly of a great white, can you?”

“Eh-eh-eh!” Superglorious answered, spinning energetically in a tight circle.

“All right, then,” Max concluded. “Let’s go stick our noses into some sharks’ business!”

Everyone laughed, wagging fins and fluttering tails.

“I don’t know how to thank you,” Blue Star said, overwhelmed as he was by these powerful, friendly dolphins.

“All in good fun,” Max said, waving his fin as if to say that chasing away twenty great white sharks led by the most feared creature in the seven seas was just a matter of routine. “Tacitus will be a bit tricky, of course, but we love a challenge, and if you’re not having fun, you’re not doing it right.” Max winked. “Just make sure you get the council’s approval, OK? Well, off we go!”

Wanting to be polite and knowing that speaking another’s language is always appreciated, Blue Star tried to thank them in Mammal. “Eh-eh-eh,” he managed.

Megamaximus Sharkbonker looked at him curiously and then burst out laughing. He laughed so hard that he had to go up to the surface for air.

“Why is he laughing so hard?” Blue Star asked.

“You don’t want to know,” Superglorious said, shaking his head. “But in the future I’d stick to Fish if I were you.” And with that he joined the rest of the squadron as they raced away.
